The Floyd Mayweather–Conor McGregor media circus began in earnest Tuesday in Los Angeles. On Wednesday, the road show makes a stop north of the border, as the fighters will appear at a press event in Toronto.
The Los Angeles event drew a raucous crowd which appeared to mostly be partial to McGregor. The UFC superstar, according to a Sports Illustrated account of the press conference, told Mayweather’s father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., that his son would soon regret taking the fight.
“You made a big mistake,” McGregor said. “He could have been 49-0 and road off into the sunset. You should have kept him retired.”
Mayweather, meanwhile, used the press conference to “taunt, challenge, dismiss and laugh at Conor McGregor,” according to SI writer Greg Bishop.
“I ain’t gotta tell you how good I am,” Mayweather said to McGregor. “You already know.”
Mayweather, 40, added that this is likely to be his last fight.
“Training camp is grueling,” Mayweather said, per SI. “I can’t do this anymore. This has to be my last.”
It was an eventful first session on Tuesday on the west coast. We’ll see what fireworks are in store on Wednesday in Toronto.
