‘Proof Of Putin’s Brutality’: Biden Blames Russian President For Navalny’s Death

President Joe Biden blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for the death of opposition figure Alexei Navalny, claiming it was proof of his “brutality.”

On Friday morning, the Federal Penitentiary Service for Yamal announced Navalny’s death, saying he collapsed while walking and could not be revived. Navalny, 47, had been serving a 19-year prison sentence in eastern Russia.

Biden pulled no punches in criticizing Putin during a press conference Friday where he reacted to the latest news, adding that Navalny was a “powerful voice for the truth.”

Even in prison he was a powerful voice for the truth, which is kind of amazing when you think about it. And he could have lived safely in exile after the assassination attempt on him in 2020, which nearly killed him, I might add. But he was traveling outside the country at the time. Instead, he returned to Russia, returning to Russia, knowing he’d likely be imprisoned or even killed if he continued his work. But he did it anyway because he believed so deeply in his country in Russia.

The reports of his death if  true. And I have no reason to believe it they’re not. Russian authorities are going to tell their own story. Make no mistake. Make no mistake, Putin is responsible for Navalny’s death. Putin is responsible for what has happened, and evolving is yet more proof of brutality. No one should be fooled. Not in Russia, not at home, not anywhere in the world.

Biden also took time to call for more financial aid to Ukraine amidst the Russian invasion and current legislative stagnation in Congress.
