Democratic National Committee CEO Steps Down in Wake of Email Scandal
According to a scoop from the Associated Press, the CEO of the Democratic National Committee resigned Tuesday.
Three Democratic strategists familiar with the situation tell AP that Amy Dacey has resigned in the wake of the leaked email scandal that engulfed the Democratic Party last week. DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz had already resigned after the hacked emails released by Wikileaks appeared to show institutional favoritism toward eventual Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Dacey in particular came under fire for her participation in a leaked email chain in which a DNC staffer suggested attacking Clinton challenger Bernie Sanders on his religious beliefs. “AMEN,” she responded to the idea.
The news comes after interim DNC chair Donna Brazile hinted that there would be more firings and resignations in the week following the Democratic National Convention. “The stupidity needs to be addressed… Will some people have to step down, be removed, resign? I’m sure at the end of the day, yes,” she said on ABC’s This Week.
