Billionaire Elon Musk is accusing the “legacy mainstream media” of trying to encourage people to assassinate him and former President Donald Trump.

Over the last few months, Musk has actively been supporting the GOP nominee and more recently has vowed to award $1 million a day to registered voters who sign a petition supporting a pro-Trump PAC.

On Sunday, Musk joined Republican Senate candidate David McCormick for an event in Pennsylvania where he gave a $1 million check to a woman in the audience who was randomly picked. During the townhall, Musk claimed he is at risk of being assassinated because he’s involved in politics.

“So, dramatically increasing my risk of being assassinated and engaging in politics are not what I want to do,” Musk told the crowd. “I do not have a death wish, but the stakes are so high that I really feel I have no choice but to do it, and that’s that’s the reason.”

After the event, Musk took to his social media platform, X, where he posted a screenshot of an article from the German magazine Der Spiegel showing Musk’s face combined with a face of Trump. Under the headline labeling Musk “public enemy number two” it said: “Elon Musk owns powerful companies, rockets, satellites, and Network X. Now, together with Donald Trump, he is targeting his greatest project: the undermining of liberal democracy.”

“With their relentless hit pieces, legacy mainstream media are actively encouraging the assassination of @realDonaldTrump and now me,” Musk wrote to his followers in the social media post.
