Republican Congressman Riley Moore (R-WV) fell for an AI-generated video of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) wearing a t-shirt that said “F*ck Trump” and dancing on an escalator in a mall to a song by the Pussycat Dolls.
Moore shared the clip on X on wrote, “If you were at the mall with your kids and this guy rolled down the escalator, you would call the cops and get him banned.”
X attached a community note to the original post of the video that included the caption, “Something is wrong with Tim Walz.” The community note clarified, “…this is clearly AI.”
Moore was quickly called out by observers who noticed he seemed to believe the clip was real. “‘Days since a congressman fell for an AI video’ sign set back to zero,” quipped Semafor’s Dave Weigel.
Others were quick to note it was odd Moore hadn’t simply deleted his tweet, with one X user writing, “How has it been 5 hours and he still hasn’t deleted this post calling himself out for getting fooled by (not even particularly good) AI? Like, does he not have friends or staff to intervene? Sure, there are no political consequences for him being so easily fooled… but is it not embarrassing?”
