‘How Can You Endorse Him?’ Fox’s Bill Hemmer Clashes With Michigan Dem Over Senate Candidate Bashing Israel

Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer got into it with Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) on Tuesday, asking how the liberal lawmaker can rationalize endorsing Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D) if she does not support his anti-Israel views.

Dingell said on America’s Newsroom she would back either El-Sayed or Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) later this year, depending on who wins Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

“Just in the last month, Sayed has said Israel should not exist as a Jewish state,” Hemmer said. When Dingell started to say she disagreed with El-Sayed, Hemmer continued,  “Hang on, I’ve known you a long time, can you support that? And if so, how?”

“No, I categorically won’t support that. Israel has a right to exist,” Dingell said.

“Then how can you endorse him if he is the candidate in November?”

“Bill, I’m going to be very blunt, there are gonna be a lot of things I don’t agree with Mike Rogers on, either,” Dingell said, referring to the former Republican lawmaker who is running unopposed in the GOP’s Michigan primary.

She went on, saying if Hemmer lived in Michigan, he would see “the sides” to the debate over Israel’s right to exist.

“I think I, more than most Americans, have lived between these two communities for decades. And both sides are hurting,” Dingell said. “I’m against antisemitism, I’m against those who are attacking the Muslim faith. We live in a country where we have freedom of religion.”

She slapped her table to drive home her point.

Dingell’s interview comes as El-Sayed is the frontrunner to in the primary — leading in 17 of the 32 polls tracked by The New York Times, while Stevens has the edge in 11 of the polls.

El-Sayed has been a fixture on cable news over the past few months, including one recent appearance on CNN where he dodged Jake Tapper’s question about why he said a lot of people were upset right after Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed.

He also claimed Israel was was just as “evil” as Hamas during an April appearance on CNN, among other gripes he has about the country.
