DNC Crowd Goes Wild When Ocasio-Cortez Roasts Trump: He ‘Would Sell This Country For a Dollar’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) received a rip-roaring reception at the Democratic National Convention on Monday as she took jabs at former President Donald Trump over his notoriously transactional politics and praised working-class Americans – recalling her past work as a bartender.

“And Chicago, we have to help her win, because we know that Donald Trump would sell this country for a dollar if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing the palms of his Wall Street friends,” Ocasio-Cortez said to loud applause.

“And I for one, am tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people up from under the boots of greed trampling on our way of life,” she added to more loud applause.

“The truth is Don, you can’t love this country if you only fight for the wealthy and big business. To love this country is to fight for its people, all people, working people, everyday Americans like bartenders and factory workers and fast food cashiers who punch a clock. And are on their feet all day in some of the toughest jobs out there,” she continued, adding:

You know, ever since I got elected, Republicans have attacked me by saying that I should go back to bartending.

But, let me tell you. I’m happy to any day of the week because there is nothing wrong with working for a living.

Trump made headlines back in May when the Washington Post reported that he told an “Energy Round Table” with top oil executives that they needed to raise for him $1 billion in campaign donations in order for him to deregulate their industry. Democrats in both the House and Senate have since opened investigations into the alleged quid-pro-quo.
