OUCH: House Republican Says Jim Jordan’s Tally Is ‘Gonna Be Going Backwards’ In Tomorrow’s Vote
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) will lose even more votes when a third vote is held on whether to make him the next speaker of the House.
Jordan whiffed in his second attempt on Wednesday when he received one vote fewer than on the first ballot on Tuesday. He was more than a dozen votes short each time. A third vote is scheduled for Tuesday.
Allies of Jordan have been lobbying Republican holdouts, including strong-arm tactics such as a cryptic email from a producer of Sean Hannity’s Fox News show.
Perhaps more incredibly, Bacon’s wife said she received an anonymous text urging her to tell her husband to vote for Jordan or he “will not hold any political office ever again.”
Appearing on Wednesday’s Your World on Fox News, guest host Sandra Smith asked Bacon about the impact of the speakerless Congress.
“Are you worried what this is gonna do to the country?” she inquired.
“Personally, those eight people that got rid of Kevin McCarthy should be saying that right now,” he replied, referring to the eight Republicans who voted to oust the last speaker. “I support giving Patrick McHenry – the speaker pro tem – more responsibilities and authorities. We could give him authorities for the budget, the border, Ukraine, Israel. We can do that, but it’s gonna take legislation to do so.”
“Are we gonna see anything happening in the next few minutes, couple hours?” Smith asked.
“Well, I’m not in Jim Jordan’s private circle there where they’re discussing this,” he replied. “I really don’t know. But we’re confident next vote he gonna lose five or six more votes. He’s gonna be going backwards.”
