Ragin’ Cajun James Carville Drops Surprising Take In Defense of Mitch McConnell

James Carville said he is sick of hearing his fellow Democrats joyfully speculate about the health problems of Republican politicians, with the “Ragin’ Cajun” saying he doesn’t have that much rage in his heart.

Carville shared his take on the Sunday episode of his Politics War Room podcast. He got onto the topic after his co-host Al Hunt read a question from a listener, asking if Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) should call a special election because of Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) absences from the Senate due to health problems.

Both Carville and Hunt didn’t think that was a good idea. Carville scoffed at Americans who are itching to boot McConnell from his seat, saying there have been politicians who have been “incapacitated” for long periods of time in the past — and they did not lose their jobs because of it.

“I don’t know what people are talking about. The United States senator from Kentucky right now is Mitch McConnell. It’s that simple,” Carville said. “And the only way he’s not going to be is if his term gets up or he resigns or he dies.”

He then called out Dems who celebrated the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) earlier this month and those who are hoping for the president to croak.

“Let me be clear. I don’t want anybody to get sick, okay. I just don’t. Not Lindsey Graham, not Mitch McConnell, right. Not even Donald Trump, okay?” Carville said. “We’ve just been slinging around, and I mean, I like hard hardball politics. I like body slams and everything, but it’s just fascination in glee in other people’s health issues is just something I don’t want to be part of. I just don’t want to be part of it.”

“Amen,” Hunt said.

Hunt also branded Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) a “nut bag” for expressing skepticism about a picture of McConnell in the hospital; Johnson wondered if it was an “older photo,” before walking those comments back a few hours later.
