Sen. Dick Durbin After Reading the Green New Deal: ‘What In the Heck Is This?’
Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) expressed his confusion on the Green New Deal and its plan to stop climate change during his interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
When he was asked if he will vote on the resolution in the Senate, Durbin said he couldn’t say.
“I can’t tell you to be honest with. I have read it and I have reread it and I asked [Senator] Ed Markey , what in the heck is,” he said.
“It’s an aspiration. It’s a resolution. What we’re going to ask the Republican leader what’s your position on global warming while we’re at it,” he continued. “Should he come out on the record and tell us if human activity is having an impact on our environment. Get on the record on both sides.”
“But you wouldn’t vote for it in its current form,” Willie Geist asked.
Durbin said he has to look at it again because it’s really long.
“I look for it and there’s nowhere for. I will tell you I certainly agree with the premise that global warming is a threat to the planet and we’re not doing enough,” he added.
Markey accused Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) of trying to “sabotage the movement we are building” on climate change by bringing the resolution to the floor for a vote.
