Don Lemon Says He’s ‘Serious’ About Considering a Run for President: ‘People Keep Asking Me To Do It’

Independent journalist and former CNN host Don Lemon said he’s “seriously” considering a 2028 presidential run during a Wednesday podcast appearance, adding, “People keep asking me to do it.”

The moment happened during an episode of Can’t Be Censored, hosted by Karman Wong and Travis Dhanraj.

“Do you have political ambition? Is that true?” asked Dhanraj on Wednesday.

“No, but people keep asking me if I’m running for president,” Lemon responded. “And I don’t know. I might. I’m serious. I don’t know. I might, because people keep asking me to do it, or if I’m going to do it.”

He continued:

I look around, you know, and I see the folks who are, you know, possibly in the running, and some of them are impressive. Many of them — most of them — are not. And, um, it seems, in this day and age, you don’t have to have a ton of political experience because our current president has none — had none. That’s very obvious. I think that [President Donald Trump] could have done a better job if he actually listened to people, but he doesn’t and he thinks he knows everything. But, um, I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States.

Dhanraj then clarified, “Okay, like, you’re being serious?”

“I’m being totally serious,” said Lemon.

“What would it take?” asked Wong.

“For the people to want me. What it would take is if I ran a political campaign, a presidential campaign, I would like to run it — and I don’t know if this is realistic or not — without having to beg for money,” the former CNN host mused.

In April 2023, Lemon announced via X that the network had “terminated” him, adding that the decision left him “stunned.” He’s since gone independent, starting The Don Lemon Show on YouTube and podcast platforms.
