Former President Donald Trump likes to brag about polls, but a new one showing what some think about his hush money trial might not get a shout out on his Truth Social platform.
The Washington Post‘s Aaron Blake dug into a new poll from Yahoo/YouGov that revealed a majority of Americans believed that Trump was guilty of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. According to Blake, the poll revealed specific percentages of Americans who also held the following views:
Trump falsified business records to conceal a hush money payment to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels (52 percent).
He committed a crime in doing so (47 percent).
This crime warrants the indictment and trial (40 percent).
The trial is worthy of their approval (49 percent).
Blake added:
Most of these numbers are right around 50 percent, which suggests the verdict remains out for many in the court of public opinion. But what’s also notable here is how few Americans take the opposite views.
Just 22 percent, for example, say Trump didn’t falsify business records. So while Americans said by a 19-point margin in March 2023 that Trump falsified the records, they now say so by a 30-point margin.
In a nutshell, he wrote: “The margin by which Americans say Trump committed a crime has increased from nine points in March 2023 to 23 points today.”
Trump, his supporters, and his growing group of surrogates have been persistent in painting the trial as a “sham” or “political interference.”
