Tucker Carlson Accused of Wild ‘Antisemitic Innuendo’ at Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Service
Tucker Carlson, the fired Fox News host turned internet provocateur, kicked up a firestorm of controversy over the weekend with his speech at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service.
Carlson, who has become a fierce critic of Israel in recent years, was accused of dabbling in anti-Semitism by telling a story about Jewish leaders wanting to kill Jesus for “telling the truth” — in the context of Kirk’s horrific murder.
“Ultimately, he was a Christian evangelist, and it actually reminds me of my favorite story ever,” Carlson told the crowd, referring to Kirk. He added:
So it’s about 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem, and Jesus shows up and he starts talking about the people in power, and he starts doing the worst thing that you can do, which is telling the truth about people, and they hate it and they just go bonkers. They hate it, and they become obsessed with making him stop. This guy’s got to stop talking. We’ve got to shut this guy up. And I can just sort of picture the scene in a lamplit room with a bunch of guys sitting around and eating hummus, thinking about what do we do about this guy telling the truth about us. We must make him stop talking. And there’s always one guy with the bright idea, and I can hear him say, “I’ve got an idea, why don’t we just kill him? That’ll shut him up. That’ll fix the problem.” It doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t work that way. Everything is inverted.
President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Israel during his first term, David Friedman, reacted to Carlson’s speech, saying, “Antisemitic innuendo and cackling like a chicken are never appropriate, but even less so at a memorial service for a great man.”
“The very fact that so many people who watched or participated in Charlie Kirk’s memorial are debating the appropriateness of @TuckerCarlson ‘s speech, tells you he gave the wrong his speech. The event was not about him!” Friedman later added.
The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra reacted by saying, “Tucker Carlson could not contain his hatred for Jews for even just a few minutes. In fact, it’s what he led with at Charlie Kirk’s memorial.”
The condemnation came from across the political spectrum, with many on the left also denouncing Carlson’s comments. Carlson, however, did find praise from some of his fellow MAGA travelers, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who praised his speech.
