WATCH: Florida Senator Passes Out While Speaking at Press Conference
State Sen. Ileana Garcia (R-FL) suddenly fainted Tuesday as she was speaking at a press conference held by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
At the conference, Garcia gave remarks on environmental legislation. In the footage obtained by TMZ, she can be seen turning to DeSantis to let him know she suddenly wasn’t feeling well.
“Governor, forgive me,” she said. “I’ve gotta sit down because I am not feeling well.”
Immediately after finishing her sentence, Garcia slumped over and fell to her side. Fortunately, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo was there to catch her and prevent her from falling to the ground. As he held her up, he repeatedly said, “We got you.”
Other officials rushed to bring Garcia a chair to let her sit down and bring her water.
The footage then cut to moments later when Garcia was feeling well enough to stand. A brief round of applause could be heard as she returned to the podium. Then, she resumed her speech with a joke about the brief emergency.
“Are you kidding? This was my moment,” Garcia said as members of the audience laughed. “Nerve-racking, but this was my moment, and I so appreciate your grace, Governor DeSantis.”
The governor appeared briefly in the video when he walked up to the podium after Garcia got back up.
