Clay Travis Cheers NBA Players for Rejecting Vaccine Mandate on Fox News: ‘They’re Standing Up’ for Their ‘Rights’

As expected, the NBA will not impose a Covid vaccine mandate on its players. In a more surprising development, Outkick founder Clay Travis joined Fox News Wednesday morning with nice things to say about the NBA.

Typically, if Travis is speaking about the NBA it’s to invoke his often portrayed “go woke, go broke” narrative, but on Wednesday, the conservative radio host was praising the league for rejecting vaccine mandates.

ESPN recently reported the NBA and NBA Players Association are continuing to negotiate Covid protocols for the upcoming season, but the NBAPA has already declined any possibility of accepting a vaccine mandate.

“They are standing up for the rights of their individual athletes about whether or not they should have to be vaccinated for Covid,” Travis told Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends.

“I’m gonna continue to bang this drum,” Travis added. “Natural immunity should matter here. It should be a part of our discussion.”

Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum are among the NBA’s many stars who tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 18 months. According to the league, about 85 percent of its players have been vaccinated against the virus.

“This is what the players association should do,” Travis continued on Fox News. “It should stand up for the rights of a minority of their overall members.”

While the NBAPA has rejected a vaccine mandate, the league is requiring referees and most team staff members to get the jab. What remains unclear is how will local government laws impact unvaccinated players?

Earlier this month, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported unvaccinated players that play in cities with indoor mandates might not be allowed to enter team facilities without an approved medical or religious exemption.

Currently, the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Golden State Warriors all play in cities with indoor vaccine mandates. The NBAPA can reject vaccine mandates from the league, but being excused from city enforced protocols remains another hurdle.
