Jemele Hill Blames Trump for Aaron Rodgers Being Considered for VP: ‘Now a Lot of People Feel Like They Can Do the Job’
Jemele Hill believes New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers being a vice presidential candidate is a direct result of Donald Trump’s presidency.
The New York Times on Tuesday that Rodgers was on the shortlist of candidates to be independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy’s running mate. Also being considered are WWE superstar-turned-governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).
While it’s been a laughing matter to some, Hill called the possibility “terrifying.”
“It would be amusing if it weren’t also terrifying,” Hill said on Wednesday’s episode of The Dan Le Batard Show, “And if it weren’t also meaning that we were picking arguably the most important leader in the world. When you look at all the things have happened, we have a presidential candidate who’s running who is facing 91 indictments, who owes so much money because of liable rape allegations because of what he owes the state of New York.
“There’s so much there that you now look at the possibility of Aaron Rodgers being a serious vice presidential candidate and say to yourself, ‘Well, it’s not the weirdest thing that we’ve seen,’ because look at our current politics.”
Hill found herself at the center of controversy when she called Trump a white supremacist on Twitter in 2017. Shortly after, she left her role as SportsCenter anchor at ESPN. Hill now writes for The Atlantic as a contributor.
Now, she feels she went too easy on the former president.
“Calling him a white supremacist is the least of the troubling things that we come to later discover about Donald Trump,” she said. “The unfortunate part of his presidency — and there are many unfortunate parts — but one of them is that now I think a lot of people feel like they can do the job, that they deserve to be in political office, because he won… If you’re Aaron Rodgers, regardless of the numerous idiotic things that you’ve said, why would you think you don’t have a chance at this?”
