Stephen A. Smith Fires Back at Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill For Accusing Him of Not Watching Games: ‘Watch Your Mouth’

Amid a wave of criticism for comments made about the Miami Dolphins earlier this week, Stephen A. Smith on Friday decided to make Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill the subject of his frustration.

Smith has been called out by a number of media personalities — including his own colleagues — for implying the Dolphins’ offensive success has mostly been a result of receivers like Hill taking short throws and turning them into big plays. In doing so, Smith seemed to be dismissive of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s impact on the team.

People were quick to point out the inaccuracy of the assessment, mentioning the fact that Tagovailoa is among the NFL leaders in deep throw success.

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky and Kimberley Martin called him out for the comments on Thursday’s episode of First Take. Later that day, Hill questioned Smith’s football knowledge and even implied he doesn’t watch the games.

Smith addressed the comments at the very beginning of First Take on Friday. Similar to what MLB reporter Alanna Rizzo did last week, Smith began by inexplicably trashing the person who asked Hill the question in the first place.

“When you come at me, you gotta have receipts. You gotta know what the hell you’re talking about,” Smith said. “First of all, quote me accurately. Second… I’m getting sick and tired of no-name dudes asking questions to stars… I don’t know who the hell asked Tyreek Hill the question. I’m not disrespecting the brother. I wish you nothing but the best, but I don’t know you.”

When Smith was informed the other man in the podcast clip was one of Hill’s friends, Smith mockingly suggested he get a friend of his own to interview him. He also continued to suggest his words were misinterpreted.

Then — like he did years ago with NBA superstar Kevin Durant — Smith once again decided to make a veiled threat toward a professional athlete.

“To accuse me of not watching the games,” Smith said, “Tyreek Hill, please watch your mouth. You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
