CNN Analyst Kirsten Powers on Melania’s Jacket: ‘It Should Just Say Let Them Eat Cake’

CNN political analyst Kirsten Powers bashed First Lady Melania Trump for wearing a jacket with the words “I don’t really care. Do you?” while en route to visit child immigrants, likening her apparent lack of sensitivity to that of Marie Antoinette.

“I was in Washington this morning,” Powers said Thursday on Anderson Cooper‘s evening show. “Nobody is wearing jackets. Second of all, this is a woman who spends a lot of time very carefully picking out what she’s going to wear. She’s very fashionable. This was not an accident. This was intentional.”

The message, Powers contended, was that the first lady simply has no concern for the separation of families and children at the southern border where she visited a Texas detention center earlier that day.

“That she would go down there and do this tells us everything that we need to know,” Powers said. “She’s officially the Marie Antoinette of this administration. It should just say ‘let them eat cake,’ that they literally just don’t care about what’s happening there.”

Powers also called Melania’s behavior similar that of a high schooler, saying it stooped far below her age and suggesting she should “grow up.”

“How old is she?” Powers asked. “This is like high school stuff. We were just listening earlier to children crying and sobbing for their parents. She’s like a teenager, literally, like this is something teenager would do. Although honestly, a teenager that was a child of a president would not do this, typically.”
