CNN Anchors Hit Trump For ‘Violating His Own Rule’ By Telegraphing Military Moves to Russia

In the wake of President Donald Trump’s stunning tweet warning Russia that he intends to send missiles into Syria, CNN anchors on Wednesday morning had a question: what happened to Trump’s campaign pledge to not reveal his military plans?

Trump said throughout the 2016 campaign that he would have an “unpredictable” foreign policy as president, and criticized the Obama administration for revealing military plans to its enemies. Critics mocked these claims from Trump as evidence that he simply didn’t have a plan for addressing crises such as the civil war in Syria.

Well on Wednesday morning, Trump ignored his own advice, notifying Russia that missiles “will be coming” into Syria after the regime’s alleged chemical weapons attack:

Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!

CNN’s Chris Cuomo first picked up on the hypocrisy, asking former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright whether Trump was “violating his own rule” by “showing his hand”:

“Well he showed his hand last week when he said we were pulling out [of Syria],” Albright replied, arguing that announcement “emboldened” Bashar al-Assad.

Later on New Day, Alisyn Camerota grilled Sen. Ron Johnson over Trump’s previous criticisms that Obama revealed his foreign policy moves.

“Why is he telegraphing this?” Camerota asked.

“I can’t explain it, but he should follow his previous advice,” Johnson said of Trump.

By time CNN’s John Berman came on the air at 9 a.m., CNN had put together a montage of Trump pledging to keep his military moves close to the chest.
