Dana Carvey Lampoons Incoming National Security Advisor John Bolton on The Late Show
On Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert had a “special guest” appear on his show.
Colbert began by blasting incoming National Security Advisor John Bolton for reportedly bullying government analysts and “berating and undermining anyone who attempted to challenge him.”
“Keep in mind, that was before that was considered presidential,” Colbert joked.
The Late Show host then mocked the former UN ambassador for reportedly throwing a tape dispenser at a federal contractor, shouted threats, chased her down a hotel hallway and pounded on her door “like a madman.”
In order to refute the image that he’s an “unstable warmonger,” “John Bolton” (played by Dana Carvey) appeared in an attempt to calm the hype of his appointment.
“It’s very important to me that nobody thinks President Trump has handed the keys to the war machine to some sort of hair-trigger lunatic,” ‘Bolton’ said. “Because if I heard someone say that, I’d blow them up quick!”
‘Bolton’ dismissed the stories about him in the media as “hogwash” and claimed he’s as “soft and tame” as “Gen. Snowball.”
“I’m sorry, who’s Gen. Snowball?” Colbert asked.
“That’s the name of my mustache,” ‘Bolton responded.
Throughout the interview Colbert noticed that Bolton’s mustache was getting larger and later addressed him about his position of preemptive strikes.
“Stephen, I’m a rational man and reason dictates, whether it’s the ayatollah or some rogue king of Denmark or the person waiting too long in line at the airport tomorrow ,” ‘Bolton continued. “You hit them first!”
“After talking to you, I can’t believe I’m saying these words… I think you might be more unstable than Donald Trump,” Colbert later concluded.
