Former Clinton Campaign Manager Robby Mook to Dems: Don’t Campaign With Keith Ellison

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) just secured the nomination for state attorney general, but one influential Democrat is warning his party to steer clear of the candidate whose campaign has been surrounded by scandal amid abuse allegations from his ex-girlfriend.

Robby Mook, former campaign manager for Hillary Clinton, cautioned Thursday that while it remains unclear whether the claims are true, the Democratic National Committee shouldn’t offer its support just yet.

“I think the DNC took the appropriate step here by saying they are going to look at it, Mook told CNN’s Kate Boulduan, referring to the organization’s move to review the accusations. “I don’t know what the particulars are. If there’s real evidence that something wrong was done, then he needs to face the consequences of that.”

Mook also advised patience, but added that campaigning alongside Ellison would be a mistake.

“I think it’s still very early,” he said. “I think I think we need to let the process play out to look if if this is true and if and if it’s true you know I think he needs to be held accountable. I don’t think people should be campaigning with him.”

The allegations, launched by Karen Monahan and her son, Austin, surfaced last week, and involve claims that a video exists of Ellison dragging Monahan by her feet from her bed. The congressman has denied the story.
