Fox & Friends ran to President Donald Trump’s side today in the wake the commander in chief’s explosive new feud with former chief strategist Steve Bannon.
The political and media worlds were shaken up on Wednesday after Trump tore into Bannon over comments he made about Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner’s “treasonous,” “unpatriotic” 2016 meeting with a Kremlin lawyer. Bannon is now facing a cease and desist order for supposedly violating his non-disclosure agreement, and in separate but related news, the Breitbart chief has lost the support of the Mercer family, one of his top financial backers.
In light of all the quotes from Bannon in Michael Wolff‘s upcoming book on the White House, Brian Kilmeade wanted to know: “what does Steve Bannon get out of disparaging a president in a way in which all his critics do?” Steve Doocy noted that Bannon said positive things about Trump on Breitbart’s radio programming Wednesday night, and invoked remarks from former Trump adviser Michael Caputo about how Wolff’s book is nothing but “trash.”
Ainsley Earhardt was up next, and she dryly noted how the media is “loving this” because Wolff’s book has generated a firestorm for the White House.
“When you look at it, it’s just a salacious book,” Earhardt said. “It’s so tabloid. It’s a book about what this guy who was fired was saying inside the White House. Do you really care? Write us and let us know.”
Kilmeade finished up by pushing back against several excerpts where Trump was characterized as politically dysfunctional and unintelligent.
Expect Trump to tweet about this segment in 5, 4, 3, 2…
