Fox News’ Shep Smith Somberly Lists Every School Shooting Since Columbine

Shepard Smith handled Fox News’ live coverage of the tragic shooting at a Florida high school, and he delivered a somber and moving chronicling of all the school shootings that have occurred in the U.S. since Columbine.

Smith made his career covering local news in Florida, and has covered a number of shootings across the country, going back to the the infamous Columbine High School massacre in 1999.

“A horrific thing has taken place,” Smith said, several hours into Fox News’ coverage of the shooting that left 17 people death and dozens more wounded.

“We have seen it again and again and I will never forget for as long as I live being outside of Columbine High School in the early evening as those two men had gone on the rampage there in the cafeteria. And over the week that followed, speaking to children and parents about all that they had just experienced and trying to deal with what was and is to this day — I am 100% percent confident — their new normal. Young people do not witness what they have witnessed today in Broward County Florida without being changed.”

“We know that since Columbine in 1999, there have been 25 fatal active school shooting incidents at elementary and high schools in America,” Smith continued, after checking in with local Florida coverage.

The Fox News anchor went on to name each school shooting in a powerful monologue.

Police identified Wednesday’s mass shooter as 19-year-old Nikolaus Cruz. A former student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, he returned to the school to open fire on students, killing 17. A SWAT team descended on the school, evacuating students and eventually apprehending Cruz around two hours after he first began shooting.
