Giuliani Slams Chris Cuomo For ‘Extremely Unfair’ Interview, ‘Disgusting’ CNN For Promoting Michael Avenatti
“Does the president ever get the benefit of the doubt with you Chris?” Rudy Giuliani charged. “Ever? Or on this network? Which is disgusting.”
That plea came after 30+ minutes of intense sparring between President Donald Trump‘s lawyer and CNN’s Chris Cuomo, who grilled Giuliani over his fight against special counsel Robert Mueller‘s Russia probe.
Cuomo was ruthlessly pressing Giuliani on the different stories Trump has offered for his firing of former FBI director James Comey, when the CNN host turned to Mueller and said the president has “been on a little bit of a jihad” against the prosecutor.
That’s when Giuliani interjected. “Does the president ever get the benefit of the doubt with you Chris? Ever? Or on this network? Which is disgusting,” Giuliani said.
“I think he gets the benefit of the doubt much more often than you give credit for,” Cuomo replied.
“Do you know that most people think that I’m crazy to come on here?” Giuliani asked.
“Do you think this interview has been unfair?” Cuomo shot back. “You think this interview has been unfair?”
“Absolutely,” Giuliani replied. “I don’t think you’ve given me a chance to explain how, injustice, this case is.”
But that wasn’t the first time in the interview that Giuliani lamented how tough it was. In comments that may have gone unnoticed, as they were made while Chris Cuomo was trying to play a video for Giuliani, Trump’s lawyer decried the network for promoting Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti.
After Cuomo asked about Trump potentially facing a subpoena from Mueller, Giuliani replied, “it never occurred to me that they would try and subpoena a president.”
That comment chides with remarks Giuliani made in a 1998 about then-President Clinton, which Cuomo had a clip of at the ready.
But when he played it, Giuliani protested “It’s not even relevant!”
“That’s really unfair,” Giuliani cried, as the video played. “What you’re doing right now is extremely unfair. It’s the reason people do not come on this show — with all that promoting of Avenatti, the ambulance chaser?!”
For what it’s worth, Cuomo took to Twitter after the interview, to point out that Giuliani’s tough talk was reserved for the cameras:
thats the job. rudy told me after he thought i was fair. he is right. now you can judge the cogency of his arguments. https://t.co/1IjjFIQIzr
