As Hillary Clinton continues her book tour across the US, she’s aired a lot of grievances. The failed Democrat presidential candidate has ragged on everything from white women to Bernie Sanders supporters, but now she has another political complaint: “Manspreading.”
For those unfamiliar with the term, manspreading describes the action of men who sit with their legs spread apart, in turn negatively impacting the experience of those sitting next to them. The word originated in urban hubs where public transportation is used regularly and where space can become limited, making manspreading a particularly egregious sin.
While Clinton obviously doesn’t use public transportation, she has still experienced this display of toxic masculinity at the hands — or legs — of Vladimir Putin, as she explained the Russian president’s sexism on the Late Show with host Stephen Colbert.
“There’s an expression — we certainly know it in New York — called manspreading. Every time I met with him, it would be the whole deal,” she said, with her body spread apart to mimic Putin’s alleged spreading.
Interestingly, Clinton herself is a big fan of physically occupying an excessive amount of space. During an interview with Refinery29, Clinton gave an explanation on how to power pose, saying, “we can each make ourselves feel bigger by being bigger… [while outstretching] arms and legs to take up as much space as possible.”
Apparently, it’s okay for Clinton to hog space in an area for her power poses, but once a Russian oligarch does the same thing it’s suddenly bad?
To the chagrin of many on the left, Clinton told Colbert she refuses to “just go away,” despite many calling for her to remove herself from political life. “I am not going anywhere,” she said — seemingly responding to the unnamed ex-Clinton surrogate who told The Hill, “I wish she’d just shut the fuck up and go away.”
