OOPS? Kasie Hunt Awkwardly Says Rand Paul Assault Is ‘One of My Favorite Stories’
One of the strangest political stories in recent years occurred earlier this month when Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) suffered several broken ribs when his next-door neighbor allegedly attacked him after Paul had finished mowing his lawn. Making the story even odder is that all arrows point to the altercation being about lawn care and property maintenance.
On MSNBC this afternoon, host Kasie Hunt was attempting to segue into a segment about the Paul story — GQ had recently published a report providing additional details — when she awkwardly indicated how fascinated she was with the whole thing.
“New details today on the incident that left Senator Rand Paul with six broken ribs,” Hunt said. “This might be one of my favorite stories, although, of course, we don’t want — clearly Senator Paul is still struggling.”
She went on to highlight the revelations in the GQ report — such as Paul doing his own lawn work and spraying lawn clippings onto neighbor Rene Boucher’s property, possibly leading to the scuffle — before ending the short segment by highlighting the absurdity of the situation if that is really the reason behind the assault.
“There you have it, ladies and gentlemen,” she concluded. “The reason for the first assault on a sitting US senator in decades.”
UPDATE 6:39 PM ET: Hunt took to Twitter after this piece was published to apologize to Paul for suggesting that there was something funny about the story.
There's nothing funny about 6 broken ribs — my apologies to @SenRandPauI for suggesting on air earlier today there was. Hope your recovery is on the right track, senator, looking forward to seeing you in the hallways soon.
