Pete Hegseth Runs Away From Reporters Pushing Back on Public Comments About Classified Intel

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth weakly refused to answer difficult questions from assembled reporters at a Honolulu airport Wednesday morning — ironically after insisting that he and President Donald Trump’s approach to foreign affairs represents strength.

Hegseth illustrated the “best defense is a good offense” approach that is so popular with the Trump administration, and continued to attack The Atlantic for subtly changing language from “war plans” to “attack plans” after publishing what many agree were plans that were — or should have been — classified to attack Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, which were mistakenly shared with Jeffrey Goldberg.

Hegseth reiterated his critique of The Atlantic he made earlier on social media, saying, “I noticed this morning out came something. It doesn’t look like war plans. And as a matter of fact, they even changed the title to attack plans. Because they know it’s not war plans. There are no units, no locations, no routes, no flight paths, no sources, no methods, and no classified information. You know who sees war plans? I see them. Every single day. I looked at them this morning. I looked at attack plans this morning. You know who does attack plans and war plans?”

As he concluded his statement, he left the assembled press, and reporters could be heard shouting questions to the Defense Secretary. “Mr. Secretary, how do you square what you said with what your messages show?” and “Mr. Secretary, did you share classified information? Mr.Secretary, did you declassify that information before you put into text?”

Hegseth turned his back to the reporters, ignoring pressing questions, and perhaps undermining the Trump administration insistence they are the most transparent administration in history.
