Jeanine Pirro and Geraldo Rivera Clash Over Kyle Rittenhouse: ‘That’s a Good Kid’ Who ‘Can Grow Up and Have a Moral Core’

The prosecution finished cross-examining Kyle Rittenhouse in his homicide trial on Wednesday and the co-hosts of The Five weighed in with their immediate reactions. In particular things got a little punchy between Jeanine Pirro and Geraldo Rivera, who disagreed on what kind of person the 18-year-old is.

Rittenhouse is being prosecuted for shooting three people – two fatally – last year during civil unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin. His attorneys argue he fired his rifle in self-defense.

“He was a good kid,” said Pirro, a former judge and district attorney. “He went there to clean up the graffiti on the buildings. He has exemplified on that witness stand what every defendant should learn to do. And that is to speak clearly, directly. He stops exactly where he should stop. He doesn’t add any further information. He listens exquisitely to the questions. And you know, there isn’t even a need on the part of the defense attorney to object to this prosecutor, who is so desperate, so out of control that he’s even got the judge going through the roof in that courtroom.”

Rivera said Rittenhouse taking the stand in his own defense is “not something I would’ve recommended.” but he “has stood his ground” during cross examination.

“It seems to me that the kid, I mean, he’s a dopey kid with a hero complex. He shouldn’t have been there. He shouldn’t have had the AR-15 on the street and all rest of it, but I think he walks to tell you the truth. I don’t see how they touch him on the murder case,  on the most serious charges.”

“I don’t think he’s a dopey kid.” Pirro retorted. “Just because he isn’t Mr. Cool from New York City doesn’t make him a dopey kid, ok? This kid practiced CPR training, he was a police explorer, he was a fire cadet.”

“He’s a 17-year-old guy, a kid that takes an AR-15 to a neighboring state,” replied Rivera.

“You don’t know what it’s like in that part of the country or maybe you do,” said Pirro.

“I do,” Rivera responded. “I lived there.”

Pirro replied by saying, “That’s a good kid. That is the kind of kid who can grow up and have a moral core.”
