Stephen A. Smith Would Consider Running for President If He Had a Chance of Winning: ‘I Wish I Could Debate Some of These Guys’
Although Stephen A. Smith has no desire to run for public office, he admitted that the presidency would be hard to resist if he had the chance during an appearance on The View on Tuesday.
During a discussion about Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, Sunny Hostin asked Smith about his own political aspirations, he gave a resounding “hell no” in regards to running for office.
“I have said this on many occasions,” Smith said. “The answer would be, ‘Hell no,’ because I like my life. I’m living a pretty good life; but I must confess — I wish I could debate some of these guys. I’d love to be on the debate stage going up against these guys with the presidency on the line.
“I’m half joking, but I kinda mean it. I mean, I have no desire to be a congressional figure or a senator; but if you came to me and you told me I had a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States of America, I would definitely consider it.”
Joy Behar then asked him, “So you want to break through the line?”
“That’s right! Yes! Absolutely!” Smith confirmed. “For that? Yes, because others have — including Democrats, by the way. I mean, they broke through the line. What’s wrong with me doing it?”
Smith added that he would run as an independent because he doesn’t like either side and wouldn’t be “bought or paid for.”
