The Kennedy Family Reportedly Set to Officially Endorse President Biden in Philadelphia
The Kennedy family is reportedly preparing to formally endorse President Joe Biden on Thursday over their own family member, independent candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Axios reported that several members of the Kennedy family will appear alongside Biden in Philadelphia on Thursday, invoking the memory of Robert F. Kennedy, former President John F. Kennedy, and the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. The outlet received prepared remarks that will be delivered by Kerry Kennedy, who will declare Biden to be “a champion for all the rights and freedoms that my father and uncles stood for.”
Kerry Kennedy’s remarks also included a shot at former President Donald Trump: “I can only imagine how Donald Trump’s outrageous lies and behavior would have horrified my father.”
The endorsement was not unexpected — several members of the Kennedy family have made statements opposing RFK Jr.’s candidacy. And his conspicuous absence at a St. Patrick’s Day gathering at the White House last month only solidified their intentions to stand by Biden instead of RFK Jr.
CNN’s Kate Bolduan covered the news in the final segment of the 7:00 AM hour on Thursday, asking Republican strategist Rina Shah and Democratic strategist Chris Kofinis about the political implications of the endorsement. Both panelists agreed that RFK Jr. posed more of a threat to Biden, though Shah (who is not a Trump supporter) mentioned that the Trump campaign was not going to “take our eyes off of him.”
