Trump Border Czar Insists ‘We Made The Right Decision’ On Deporting and Imprisoning Migrant The Supreme Court Ordered Returned
President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, joined Newsmax on Friday and was asked to weigh in on the Supreme Court’s ruling that the U.S. government must bring back a migrant deported and indefinitely imprisoned in El Salvador by “error.”
Chris Salcedo asked Homan, “Sir, as you know, who’s to blame here in your view? Congress for writing such a stupid law that promotes illegal immigration or the Supreme Court’s interpretation?”
“The alien is to blame. The alien entered this country illegally, which is a crime. He’s the MS-13 gang member, according to our intelligence and even that of the intelligence of El Salvador. He was given withholding and removal from El Salvador because of fear of gang violence,” Homan replied, adding:
Let’s be clear. President Bukele has changed the whole, the whole… face of El Salvador. He’s attacked gang violence there. The country is much, much safer than it was when the court made this ruling. So, listen, the Supreme Court says we’ll facilitate. We’ll facilitate. However, we’ve got to remember, he’s an El Salvadoran national in custody of the El Salvadorian government. So we’ll, you know, facilitate what we can, but I think we made the right decision.
The Trump administration had previously acknowledged in court filings that Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia had been deported as a result of an “administrative error.”
“The order properly requires the Government to ‘facilitate’ Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador,” the Supreme Court said in its ruling Thursday.
Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran citizen who has lived in the United States for more than a decade. He was granted protection from deportation by a federal judge in 2019 after facing baseless claims he was a member of MS-13.
Abrego Garcia is married to a U.S. citizen, Jennifer Vasquez, who told various outlets this week she had not heard from her husband since he was detained by ICE and insists he is not a gang member.
