‘Unmoored’: Maggie Haberman Tells CNN That ‘Something is Unleashed’ With Trump Lately
President Donald Trump has certainly been on a bender the past few days. Remember when he called Sen. Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” at an event honoring Navajo Code Talkers, as a portrait of Andrew Jackson loomed in the background like a drunk, racist uncle? Or how about that time (this morning) he re-tweeted anti-Muslim videos so harsh that even Piers Morgan and Infowars editor Paul Joseph Watson had to tell him to cool it? How about when he suddenly decided the Access Hollywood tape was fake (last night)?
What’s going on with him lately? Is he just colicky? Is he bummed that he missed this year’s return of the McRib?
Nobody knows, but media figures are beginning to notice his increasingly erratic behavior. New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman appeared on CNN and said that Trump seems “unleashed” these past few days.
“Something is unleashed with him lately,” she told hosts Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota. “I don’t know what is causing it. I don’t know how to describe it.”
“I think the last couple of day’s tweets have been markedly accelerated in terms of seeming a little unmoored.”
Haberman did not agree with Cuomo when he suggested that Trump surrounds himself with yes men who allow him to tweet whatever he wants.
“People are constantly saying ‘don’t do things,'” she said. “He’s also a grown man. He’s the president. They can’t handcuff him. They can’t break his fingers to keep him from tweeting.”
“They do tell him ‘please don’t do this.’ He does these things anyways.”
As of this writing, Trump has not insulted Haberman on Twitter for her comments.
