Huh? Trump Reportedly Suggested Access Hollywood Tape ‘Was Not Authentic’

A New York Times report on President Trump and Roy Moore features one detail that you may not have expected we’d be revisiting.

Remember the Access Hollywood tape? The one where the man who is now the President of the United States talked about grabbing women by the pussy? The one he apologized for, but also subsequently downplayed as locker room talk?

Apparently the President has just been privately floating the idea that it’s not authentic:

[S]omething deeper has been consuming Mr. Trump. He sees the calls for Mr. Moore to step aside as a version of the response to the now-famous “Access Hollywood” tape, in which he boasted about grabbing women’s genitalia, and the flood of groping accusations against him that followed soon after. He suggested to a senator earlier this year that it was not authentic, and repeated that claim to an adviser more recently.

Again, as the Times notes, Trump admitted those were his words and he apologized after it came out.

The report also provides some insight into Trump’s personal reaction to the Moore scandal, including how he apparently “vented his annoyance” after his daughter Ivanka publicly condemned Moore.
