‘What Made You Mad?’ Fox’s Bret Baier Asks Zelensky About Oval Office Dustup With Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky went on Fox News just hours after a wild scene in which he, President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance argued over the war in Ukraine and U.S. support for the country.

The dustup unfolded in the Oval Office, where the three spoke cordially for about 40 minutes. Things went off the rails when Zelensky asked Vance whether Russian President Vladimir Putin could be relied on to keep his word on any diplomatic agreement to cease hostilities. Zelensky’s question infuriated the American leaders, who accused him of being “disrespectful” to them.

After the meeting, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly told Zelensky to leave, which the president did without signing an anticipated rare earth minerals deal with Trump. The tense meeting adds more uncertainty to Ukraine’s already precarious position, which began when Russia invaded.

On Friday’s Special Report on Fox News, host Bret Baier appeared to frame the brouhaha as being started by a “mad” Zelensky.

“What set you off?” Baier asked. “What made you mad? Because, they said your tenor and your tone set that–”

“It’s not about mad, Bret,” Zelensky interjected. “When [American politicians], for example, say that Ukraine is almost destroyed, that our soldiers run away, that they are not heroes, that Ukraine lost million[s] of civilians, its president is [a] dictator, you know, what is reaction? It’s not about me. The reaction is, where is our friendship, Ukraine and United States?”

Baier asked Zelensky about the propriety of Zelensky expressing skepticism toward the Trump administration’s apparent belief in the trustworthiness of Putin.

“Mr. President, shouldn’t this dynamic – if you are going to be like this – be behind closed doors?” the host asked.

“Of course,” Zelensky replied.

“So, do you regret that?” Baier asked.

Zelensky turned to a translator nearby for clarification on the word “regret.”

“Yes, I think it was not good,” the president said. “I think it was not good.”
