‘Would You Support Retribution?’ Fox’s Stuart Varney Presses GOP Rep Over Trump Vowing to ‘Go After’ Political Rivals

Fox Business host Stuart Varney pressed Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) over Donald Trump’s recent claim that he will “go after” his political rivals if her returns to the Oval Office.

During a Thursday morning interview on Varney & Co., the host played a clip of Trump  suggesting he could use the DOJ to prosecute his rivals in a Wednesday evening sitdown with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Last week, the former president was found guilty by a Manhattan jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records regarding hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. Trump has claimed that his three other criminal indictments and his conviction last week are a result of “election interference” from President Joe Biden’s administration.

Smith responded to Varney by claiming that Trump is not referring to “retribution” but rather “every American standing” for an “equal justice system.”

VARNEY: Donald Trump suggests that he could prosecute his political rivals if he’s elected president again…Congressman, would you support retribution? Because that’s what Donald Trump is talking about. Retribution.

SMITH: Stuart, Donald Trump is not talking about retribution. Donald Trump is talking about every American standing as an equal justice system. What we have seen is if your last name is Biden, you’re treated much more favorably than any other American. That is what he’s talking about. The fact that Hunter Biden lied to Congress. And if the Biden Justice Department does not bring prosecution over the next six months, absolutely. The Trump Justice Department should do it because it is a felony to lie to Congress. And just because it’s the president’s son and the president’s brother, they should not be immune.
