Provocateur Katie Hopkins Sparks Backlash For Mocking GMB’s Kate Garraway After Husband’s Death
Media personality Katie Hopkins ignited a storm of backlash following a tasteless post on social media about ITV Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, who is grieving the loss of her husband Derek Draper.
In a video posted to Instagram and then X, Hopkins sipped on a glass of wine and sarcastically mocked Garraway, claiming the presenter was producing a documentary and book titled Life After Derek.
“Tonight, there’s a documentary on the TV that you need to watch. It’s a Kate Garraway documentary, so it’s important I finish on time for you tonight. And it’s, um, Kate Garraway: Life After Derek. Yep,” Hopkins said. “He’s only been dead a week.”
Reaching for her drink she laughed.
Despite apparently duping some of her followers, the show is not real. Rather the fabricated show is a nasty jibe at Garraway’s 2022 documentary called Finding Derek about her husband’s complications from Covid, which he contracted in March 2020, and her family’s struggle with his deteriorated condition. Draper died in January.
Hopkins’ video and prank were fiercely criticised by the public on social media, to which she pushed back.
Weaponising someone’s tragic death for your grift.
Stay classy.

Katie, why do you find the death of someones husband amusing? This is inhumane. Even by your standards.

Your active celebration of the pain and suffering of others reflects the emptiness of your soul.

Hopkins, who rose to fame as a contestant on BBC’s The Apprentice before pivoting to political commentary, had her account permanently suspended in 2020 for “hateful conduct.” It was recently reinstated. During the pandemic Hopkins became a critic of lockdown measures and Covid vaccinations.
