Labour Shadow Minister Bets Sky News Host Kay Burley General Election Happens In May

Shadow Cabinet Office minister Jonathan Ashworth bet Sky News host Kay Burley Tuesday that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will call a general election in May,

Specifically citing Thursday 2 May as the likely date, Ashworth said: “And by the way, this election, I think, is coming in May. I think it’s definitely coming in May. The Conservatives are planning for May.”

“I bet you ten of your English pounds it doesn’t,” the host replied.

“I bet you it’s coming in May, right? Let’s do that,” he said, as the pair shook on the wager.

Ashworth continued: “I do a lot of running for Children of Alcoholics charity. It’s called NACOA. Let’s give them money there.”

“Absolutely,” Burley said.

Confident, the MP added: “But it’s coming in May. And my challenge today to Rishi Sunak is to name that date. Because businesses investing in our economy need certainty. Name the date, Rishi Sunak.”

Labour’s persistent prediction of a May election has been met with scepticism until recently, with many journalists dismissing it. However, internal motivations within Labour drive this narrative, ensuring preparedness for a May showdown.

Traditionally, prime ministers facing potential defeat have postponed elections for as long as possible. Yet, whispers from within No 10 suggest a growing inclination towards a May election.

As speculation mounts and bets are placed, all eyes remain fixed on Sunak’s next move, poised for what could be a seismic move in the political landscape.
