Meme Wars: Conservatives Mock Labour Using BBC Middle Finger Gaffe, X Users Hit Back

The Conservative Party attempt to troll Labour backfired Thursday as users pulled out an old image of MP Andrea Jenkyns doing same to mock their policies in return. (Screengrab via X)
The Conservative Party seized on BBC presenter Maryam Moshiri’s middle finger gaffe to troll the Labour Party over its illegal immigration policy Thursday, only for users to kick back using a meme of Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns doing the same.
The post by the Conservative Party’s official account on X was part of a string of tweets following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s freshly announced draft Rwanda and plan to deal with illegal immigration by “disapplying” human rights.
The clip of Morishi being caught flipping the bird at the beginning of a news broadcast, in what she later apologised for as a joke between the studio team, went viral Thursday. Posting a still from the video, the Tory social media team wrote: “Labour when you ask for their plans to tackle illegal migration.”
The tweet was quickly piled on as users pushed a meme of their own to mock the Conservative government’s policies, using an image from 2022 of Tory MP Jenkyns pulling the same gesture at Downing Street protesters.
