Sadiq Khan Brands Tory Rival Susan Hall ‘Most Dangerous Candidate’ He’s Faced
Labour’s London mayor Sadiq Khan branded rival Tory candidate Susan Hall as the “most dangerous candidate” he has come up against after LBC host Tom Swarbrick pressed Hall on her past social media posts.
The comment came during a heated debate on LBC radio that saw the pair go head-to-head just weeks before Londoners are set to vote in the mayoral election on May 2.
The host decided to take Hall to task on her controversial social media activity and whether voters should weigh her record online into how they vote.
Swarbrick said: “You liked a post calling Sadiq Khan a ‘traitor rat.’ You made a baseless claim that he supported electoral fraud. You employed an Islamophobic trope about ‘Londonistan.’ [Are those] the musings of a serious politician?”
Hall responded: “I have apologised for my social media a long time ago, and many times, and I have learnt from that. I rarely use it.”
“What have you learnt?” the host pushed.
Hall said: “I’ve learnt that you have to be very, very careful when you just flick on things without thinking twice about it. I’ve apologised for that, and I’ve learnt…”
“They’re not just hurty words, as you called them?” Swarbrick pressed.
“And I have learned from my mistakes,” the Tory continued.
Turning to Khan, the host asked for his input.
“This is very serious because it affects me and my personal safety and my family’s personal safety,” the mayor said.
The host asked: “Do you feel safe in a London run by someone who tweeted and liked those things?”
Khan replied: “I’m very careful what I’m saying now. And I’ve thought long and hard about this, Tom. I’ve fought three council elections, I’ve fought three parliamentary elections. This is my third mayoral election. The Tory candidate is the most dangerous candidate I’ve fought against.”
Shocked, Hall shot back: “Well, I think that’s an outrageous comment.”
