Shadow Secretary David Lammy Quits LBC Show Ahead Of Election, Replaced By Lewis Goodall

Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy resigned from his role as a radio host on LBC ahead of the looming general election.

The Labour politician was interviewed by LBC colleague Nick Ferrari on Monday and described how the decision had stirred a pot of mixed emotions as he moved to leave regular callers and the network behind.

Lammy told Ferrari: “I’ve enjoyed it hugely. And the thing is, Nick, you’ll understand this. Everyone thinks it’s about talking. More than half the job’s about listening. And I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’ve worked out I quite like listening to people up and down the country.”

The move comes less than a week after media watchdog Ofcom said it was putting broadcasters “on notice” that it would be intensifying enforcement to punish any election bias with specifically issued industry guidance on rules around the use of sitting politicians as presenters.

Lammy is subject to an ongoing Ofcom investigation over whether he breached impartiality in breaking news during one of his shows in March.

Stepping into Lammy’s spot is Lewis Goodall, co-host of The News Agents podcast. Goodall previously worked as political correspondent for Sky News and served as policy editor on BBC Newsnight.
