Times Radio Host Shares ‘GB Newspaper’ Gift Mocking Martin Daubney Breaking News Gaffe

Times Radio presenter Matt Chorley shared a picture of a “Secret Santa” newsroom gift from his team Thursday, a framed fake GB Newspaper front page mocking GB News host Martin Daubney’s disastrous breaking news announcement.

“You can stop trying now,” Chorley wrote on X, posting an image of his gift. “I’ve just got the BEST present in our team secret Santa.”

The fake newspaper cover reports on a broadcast that went viral in September when Daubney, presenting his show, was caught unprepared for the breaking news story that terror suspect Daniel Abed Khalife had been arrested. Despite an apparent autocue jam, Daubney stumbled through the announcement.

“First, it’s the news headlines… no it’s not – we’re going straight to me. This is breaking news – this is fast and happening,” he began. “As we just said… the terror man…”

Frustrated, Daubney finally gave up: “Fuck, it’s all gone wrong.”

Attempting to transition to a guest booked to appear on the show unrelated to the incident, as the autocue continued to malfunction, Daubney said: “Chip Chapman, we have him coming up soon on the arrest of the terror suspect. He escaped from Wandsworth Prison and he’s been apprehended.”

He continued: “We’ve got our first guest. Police have arrested prisoner Daniel Khalife, beg your pardon… This story is just happening.”

Chorley’s gift features an article crafted up from the transcript and jokes that analysis by guest Chapman spans pages 2 to 40.

The gift drop couldn’t come at a better time, just days after the Times reported that investor Sir Paul Marshall, whose hedge fund owns a majority share in GB News, is considering launching a rival publication to the Daily Telegraph, if his attempt to buy the paper fails.

The Times reports that representatives for Marshall have been scouting out Telegraph editors and reporters in the hopes of poaching them for his new venture.
