WATCH: Home Secretary James Cleverly Forgets What Department He Works For

Turnover on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet is so quick that new Home Secretary James Cleverly, formerly Foreign Secretary, forgot which department he was representing in a live press conference on BBC.

Cleverly momentarily lapsed in remembering his current role as home secretary during a speech on Thursday while addressing the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners and National Police Chiefs Council joint summit.

The ex-foreign secretary said: “I want you to feel that you can speak with me and my team at the Foreign… Old habits die hard.”

The slip prompted laughter from the audience.

This incident followed Cleverly’s assertion that ministers are firmly committed to organising a deportation flight to Rwanda before the upcoming election, despite the policy being deemed illegal.

Cleverly replaced former Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Monday during the prime minister’s a thorough and dramatic cabinet reshuffle that saw ex-Prime Minister David Cameron take up his role at foreign secretary.
