John McCain is Discontinuing Medical Treatment

The family of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) announced in a statement Friday morning that the senator has chosen to discontinue medical treatment, after a year-long battle with glioblastoma — a rare form of brain cancer.

In a statement posted to twitter by the Senator’s daughter, View co-host Meghan McCain, the family announced that Sen. McCain has made the decision to forego additional treatment.

“[T]he progress of disease and inexorable advance of age render their verdict,” the family said. “With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”

“My family is deeply appreciative of all the love and generosity you have shown us during this past year,” Meghan McCain wrote. “Thank you for all your continued support and prayers. We could not have made it this far without you — you’ve given us strength to carry on.”

“I love my husband with all of my heart,” the senator’s wife, Cindy McCain, added on Twitter. “God bless everyone who has cared for my husband along this journey.”
