Holder Responds to Ferguson Arrests, Commends St. Louis PD

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch on Sunday named 20-year-old Jeffrey Williams as the gunman in the shooting of two police officers in Ferguson. Shortly thereafter Attorney General Eric Holder commended the St. Louis Police Department for tracking the alleged perpetrator down.

“The arrest sends a clear message that acts of violence against our law enforcement personnel will never be tolerated,” Holder said in a statement.

“The swiftness of this action is a credit to the cooperation between federal authorities and the St. Louis County Police Department…I commend the ATF and the St. Louis police for their tremendous work in identifying this suspect.”

“In the days ahead, we will continue to partner with the authorities in St. Louis county to secure justice for all those affected by this heinous and cowardly crime,” Holder continued. “And we will continue to stand vigilant in support of public safety officers and the communities they serve.”

Holder has been active in the Ferguson community since the grand jury declined to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, and has drawn partisan ire for his department’s role in the case, including issuing a report last week condemning the Ferguson Police Department as a racist collection agency. Some even implicated Holder in the shootings themselves.
