Alan Dershowitz Defends Bannon: ‘No Evidence to Support That’ He’s an Anti-Semite
Famed civil liberties lawyer Alan Dershowitz defended Stephen Bannon on Tuesday, saying there’s “no evidence to support that” Donald Trump‘s campaign chairman is an Anti-Semite.
Speaking to Steve Kornacki on MSNBC Tuesday, Dershowitz said that he didn’t feel there was enough evidence to assign the label of Anti-Semite to the alt right provocateur.
The attorney said that the much referenced Breitbart article titled “Bill Kristol, Renegade Jew” was written by a Jewish author, David Horowitz. He also noted that Breitbart editor Joel Pollak is an Orthodox Jew and has worked closely with Bannon for several years.
Dershowitz conceded that Bannon has the support of bigots, but argued that he should not be judged by those supporters.
“Is he supported by bigots?…Yes he is. But…if Keith Ellison, who’s a decent, good person, were to become the head of the Democratic National Committee, Hamas would support it, would cheer and yell. Because he’s had some associaition with (Louis) Farrakhan in the past.”
The lawyer added:
“Look, I don’t know whether he’s an Anti-Semite or not,” Dershowitz said. “I just don’t think you should toss that phrase around casually.”
