Eliot Spitzer: From Disgraced Governor To MSNBC Anchor

video

Back on June 29 when Dylan Ratigan‘s first MSNBC show debuted, his featured guest was former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.

With Spitzer’s name being thrown around as a potential political candidate again, he moved into a new role today – as anchor on MSNBC, filling in for Ratigan.

Spitzer and Monica Novotny co-anchored for Ratigan at 4pmET, who was out today.

Through several interviews based on finance, but also foreign policy and more, Spitzer held his own, was engaging – and certainly proved this may not be a random occurrence.

With one anchor gone, a new one emerges. Maybe if he eschews the political arena he can stick with TV news.

Here’s one of the segments:

People at MSNBC can’t go to the bathroom without you picking on them. LOL This just shows MSNBC is an equal opportunity employer.

  • m

Interesting. Maybe MSNBC is grooming him? At least testing the waters, cause he had to be co-anked.

  • ImNotBlue

You think he keeps his socks on while anchoring?

  • SteveMG

News anchor #9? Does he pay Griffin or did Griffin pay him?

Seriously, what news background or experience does he have to warrant this? There are, I’m sure, a lot of very talented hard working people over there that warrant a shot at this. Folks who’ve spent years working in journalism.

And they give the spots to people like Schultz and Spitzer? That really shows to me how low MSNBC views journalists and journalism. It’s a carnival show to them.

Really, we have the ridiculousness at Fox and then this. This isn’t news, folks, it’s a carny act.

  • tjl

This is fantastic. Spitzer was an excellent Governor. Good for him .

  • SteveMG

Sorry, how does being a good governor makes you qualified to do news?

How do the people at MSNBC who’ve devoted years in journalism feel about something like this? This isn’t a new business, it’s show business.

Fine. If they want Howard Beale doing news, just tell us. But don’t pretend to be a news organization serving the public. Because they’re not.

If I worked for MSNBC, I’d be mighty steamed.

  • TylerDurdin

It’s only fitting since MSNBC is the leader in sleaze.

    WTF? Bizarre.

  • tjl

SteveMG, I’m with you on this. I’m sorry, but I tend to think that “cable news” itself is more entertainment than news. Whether you get your “news” from MSNBC, FoxNews, CNN, etc. it’s all built on entertainment and for the most part political lean. If you told me that Spitzer was doing a news show on the BBC or was hired as a journalist for the New York Times that would be a different story. I guess I just don’t see FoxNews or MSNBC as serious news outlets. Those who do, good for them. It’s all entertainment to me….

  • TylerDurdin

Hiring a guy guy who prosecuted “johns” for patronizing prostitutes and who, in turn, patronized high priced call-girls and had sex with them while wearing his socks, represents an incredible elevation of MSNBC’s moral and ethical standing!

  • the real john t

Bill O’Reilly paying big bucks to get rid of a sexual harrassment case says a lot about Fox’s moral and ethical standings. And lets not forget Dick Morris.

  • TylerDurdin

Let’s not forget Rick Sanchez of CNN killed a guy when he was DUI.

  • SteveMG

I guess I just don’t see FoxNews or MSNBC as serious news outlets. Those who do, good for them. It’s all entertainment to me….

Sadly, you’re right. Whether one is on the political left or right or in between, it’s awful.

Heck, we all know that Fox would have hired Spitzer if they thought it would get ratings.

  • TylerDurdin

“Heck, we all know that Fox would have hired Spitzer if they thought it would get ratings.”

Son, FOX already HAS the ratings.

    NEXT!

  • Snipzor

He has a great voice for tv, at least in this position (He’s no Peter Mansbridge, nobody will match that greatness, ever). Anyways, to business, here’s the deal. You forget about the Spitzer scandal, and I’ll forget about both the Mark Foley scandal and the Larry Craig scandal. You’re getting quite the deal here :P

  • http://www.anonymousfinch.com AnonymousFinch

Spitzer’s frequenting of prostitutes was the LEAST morally reprehensible thing he ever did. He is an arrogant thug and bully, a truly dangerous man who should never have been put in a position of power.

  • Snipzor

Then in that case shall we trade that part of his reputation with Jesse Helms? You know, forget how that bad rep and we can take one step (Out of a thousand) to forget Jesse Helms’ existence. Also an excellent deal.

  • TylerDurdin

Sorry, Snipzor, ya can’t hide Senator Robert Byrd or these fine libs:

A few years ago, he (Obama) would be serving us coffee.” — Bill Clinton

” He (Obama) doesn’t sound like a Ne–o unless he wants to.” Senator Harry Reid

“He ( Obama) couldn’t sell watermelons to….” Dan Rather

“See, Barack’s been talking down to black people … I want to cut his nuts off.” Jesse Jackson

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side… Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

    Robert Byrd Democrat (WVa.)

  • TylerDurdin

BTW,Snipzor, you forgot about your friend Eric Massa, Congressman (D-NY) Resigned to avoid an ethics investigation into his alleged behavior of groping and tickling a young male staffer.

  • Snipzor

Eric Massa canceled out Mark Foley a while ago. Keep grasping at those straws. Or as the new saying goes, keep fucking that chicken. Ten points to the first who gets the reference.

  • TylerDurdin

Eric Massa canceled out Mark Foley a while ago”

Wrong! Foley never grouped anyone, but your friend Massa did.

Oh, and Ernie Anastos was referring to you!

    LOL

  • Snipzor

Tyler, you should actually look up the Mark Foley scandal, quite a lot going on. If anything the trade between Massa and Foley was unjustified. Your ignorance of the actual scandals doesn’t shock me Tyler, I’ve expected you to be willfully ignorant of facts ever since I’ve seen your first post.

Also, “fucking that chicken” is a misspeak of “plucking that chicken” which is in essence “grasping at straws” and you have literally only grasped at straws for the past three posts. Stay classy.

  • TylerDurdin

Snipzor, I appreciate your lies, but Foley was NOT accused of groping anyone. He was nailed for suggestive emails to Congressional pages and you making stuff up doesn’t change the facts, which you are so bereft of.

  • TylerDurdin

Snipzor, your staggering ignorance of the internet viral sensation over this video is so telling about you.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdnXYWSa56w

  • Snipzor

Tyler, this isn’t a contest, and you are fucking that chicken btw. Plus Mark Foley did sleep with his former pages on two occasions, and while they were still pages, he had made multiple attempts to actually sleep with them. Your knowledge of the scandal is quite unbelievably bad, then again, I don’t expect much from you except for the fact that you will lie through your teeth.

  • TylerDurdin

    Did Foley group someone?

Answer NO and you won’t admit it, coward.

“Plus Mark Foley did sleep with his former pages on two occasions, ”

So now you are a homophobe. what is done by consenting adults is up to them.

I’m calling Rosie and Ellen right now.

“Though Foley is not alleged to have engaged in sexual relations with pages during the time of their service, he allegedly entered, on at least two occasions, into sexual relationships with ex-pages.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Foley

  • Snipzor

So a “family values” man cheats on his wife on two separate accounts, sexually harasses his pages, inappropriately touches a young page and invited him to his hotel room. You don’t seem to get why these are big deals. Not because of the act itself, but the hypocrisy demonstrated by Mark Foley, or Larry Craig, who have heavily opposed every single piece of legislation to advance gays within society. Massa only has the DADT support, Mark Foley has quite a lot of hypocrisy going for him.

    Keep grasping at those straws.

  • TylerDurdin

“Not because of the act itself, but the hypocrisy demonstrated by Sptizor???? A guy guy who prosecuted “johns” for patronizing prostitutes and who, in turn, patronized high priced call-girls and had sex with them while wearing his socks.

Yeah, Snipzor, preach to me about hypocrisy but you are a hypocrite.

  • Snipzor

Because you totally saw me not give shit to Spitzor during the scandal because of that exact reason, you really are quite the idiot.

  • TylerDurdin

BTW, Snipzor, just which network hired Foley to be a news anchor?

Was it CBS? NBC? FOX? ABC?

    Please share that with me.

  • TylerDurdin

Ah, Spinzor now resorts to name calling.

    You got nothing, eh?

    LMAO

  • ImNotBlue

    the real john t says:
    April 8, 2010 at 6:19 pm

So what you’re saying is that MSNBC is no better than anyone else? And that’s a good thing?

  • TfT

So let me get this straight:

Schuster suspended/fired for being immoral, unethical and unprofessional.
Spitzer hired for being immoral, unethical and unprofessional

    Only on MSNBC.
