Epix Removes Katie Couric Documentary From Its Website (UPDATED)

The cable network behind the Katie Couric-produced documentary Under the Gun has pulled the film from its website a day after Couric apologized and admitted it contained a misleading edit of gun proponents’ remarks.

Pro-gun blog BearingArms.com first noticed that attempting to watch the film now brings up a message saying “This movie is not currently playing on Epix.”

Epix

In a statement to The Washington Examiner, the channel denied the Epix original documentary was taken down because of the controversy. “As of today, the doc moves out of the premium window – off of EPIX – and into a transactional window. This is part of the original agreement we struck when we acquired the doc coming out of the Sundance Film Festival,” a spokeswoman said.

UPDATE –– 9:23 pm EST: The rest of Epix’s statement makes it clear that it’s been moved to the VOD section:

“The distribution strategy allowed us to premiere the doc on the network and also preserve maximum value for the transactional VOD and EST windows that follow.”

We should also note that a site promoting the film a few days ago said it drops on digital HD and VOD on May 31st, today.
