Mediaite and LawNewz Surpass 10 Million Unique Monthly Visitors in October, Set All Time Traffic Records
October was a big month for many news sites and stations. After all, there is this really significant, ongoing story apparently consuming the nation. With that said, it was a disproportionately huge month for us. We compete with other influential news and information sites like Politico, The Daily Beast, and The Hollywood Reporter among others, all of whom have staffs roughly ten times the size of ours. And yet now it’s clear that we are more than holding our weight in the most competitive and important of times.
Mediaite broke its previous all time record by more than half a million unique visitors, welcoming a whopping 8.487 million uniques to the site in October. According to Quantcast, which directly measures websites, Mediaite now ranks in the top 250 of all types of web properties in the country (for those playing at home Google, YouTube and Facebook are the top three).
Maybe even more impressive, was baby sister site LawNewz, which just launched this year with a handful of staffers, nearly hitting the 2 million unique visitors mark (1.877 million) by live streaming trials like that of Justin Ross Harris (accused of intentionally leaving his child in a hot car), having reporters with legal backgrounds covering and analyzing law news as well the legal side of the Presidential campaign.
I am also proud that both sites have managed to continue publishing pieces that excite and infuriate both sides of the political aisle.
In the past year our whole company has streamlined and better focused on the winning sites (“girl geeks” please check out TheMarySue, it really is terrific.)
While there is no doubt that Trump-Clintonalooza has helped boost our numbers across the board, I am confident that we are poised to build on the audience and new readers and watchers in the months to come. Also please make sure to tune into our live election day video coverage on the front pages of both Mediaite and LawNewz starting at 5pm on November 8.
And here is another tease, I’m expecting to make a big announcement about a new Mediaite columnist right after the election. Fingers crossed.
Bottom line, it’s all YUGE and I truly appreciate all of the readers, watchers and commenters who make our sites so special.
Happy voting next week!
(I’m guessing that even that passing comment will somehow be analyzed in the comment section as secretly supportive of Jill Stein’s candidacy).
