‘Ok Birther Theory Guy’: Patriots Player Fires Back at Critics of His Decision to Skip White House

One of the six New England Patriots players who announced his intentions not to join the team at a White House ceremony honoring the Super Bowl champions later this year shot back at his critics on Twitter this Thursday.
Chris Long, a defensive lineman for the champion Patriots, fired off a series of Tweets with his responses to some of the messages he’s received over the past week.
Heard it all this week…if you don’t want to hear about some of the dumb shit I’ve heard…mute away, but it’s good. Rapid fire time, yeah?

As a football player, liberals thought I was a living, breathing piece of steak before I agreed with them.— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) February 17, 2017
“You hate the troops” The secondary focus of my foundation (out of two causes) is veteran support. Do your research. Also, not relatable.

“You hate white people” You realize all humans that live in America should be concerned? Also that assumption says something about you.
— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) February 17, 2017
“You hate white people” Oh yeah, for sure. I despise them but I named my son (who is white) after an outlaw country singer.

“Stop believing the media.” Dude I just saw you retweet Fox News.

“You should go talk to trump if you want change” I’m skipping a photo op, not a congressional hearing.

So I’ve listened to it all week. And it’s sparse really. Most people aren’t ridiculous. Thought y’all may enjoy that thread.

Long is one of four Patriots team members who have given political reasons for not attending the ceremony. Two others have not specifically attributed their decision to politics. A seventh player — James White, who scored the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl — says he’s on the fence.
