Palin Defends Writing On Hand: God Did It Too

video

It’d be an easy joke to say that Sarah Palin is comparing herself to God in this clip of the former governor of Alaska at Right to Life fundraiser on March 5th. But considering her audience, there’s really nothing that outlandish about drawing an analogy from the Bible to apply to your situation. What is ridiculous is that she’s still defending her cheat-notes after mocking Obama for using a teleprompter. So before all the blogs jump on this as “SARAH PALIN CALLS HERSELF GOD,” let’s remember that old saying about “Let he without sin write the sensationalist headlines.”

Drew, to address your observation “What is ridiculous is that she’s still defending her cheat-notes after mocking Obama for using a teleprompter.” I would submit there is nothing ridiculous about it. The people that meant to deride her for writing on her hand actually did her a huge favor. She can use that example over and over again and it rings rings true with people. Virtually everybody has written on their hand to remind them of something, it’s very common, unlike the impression given by an “elite” using two teleprompters to speak anyplace, including an elementary school.

She can use that example to her advantage, and obviously she is!

  • Olby Sucks

Sarah is very good at whipping the far left loons into frenzies. ;)

  • Azarkhan

Timzank is absolutely right. As she said on Jay Leno, she’ll keep writing on her hand since it irritates the Left so much.

This article/video is a good example. Instead of ignoring her, a leftist site, Mediaite, continues to bring even more attention to Sarah Palin. And despite continuous attempts to denigrate her (see the Daily Kos/Mediaite smear about “canned applause” on Leno, or the recent E! lies) she just gets more popular.

Ordinary Americans connect and sympathize with her. And it is all because of the vicious Leftist attacks on her and her family. If I may take the liberty of responding on behalf of Ms. Palin, THANK YOU!

    Olby Sucks says:

You are correct, this will be all over the Lamestream media. Wait till Olberman, Maddow, Shannon Moore, etc learn of her comments. As with everything she says and does, the Sh!t will hit the fan.

Meanwhile we have, nothing but future deficits to burden our kiddos with, and burden their kiddo with, 10%+ unemployment, no change in the way the US is perceived around the world, thousands of additional soldiers being sent to Afghanistan, a dollar sinking like an lead filled balloon, at least one domestic terror attack, and a Vice President who sounds like a buffoon every time he speaks. Yet happily and like giddy children the lame stream media is following everything Palin does, like she was the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

Grow up, people !!!!! Stop reporting everything she does and says.

  • Barney

Wow…Palin is still defending using a few handwritten (literally) notes for an otherwise extemperaneous 45 minute speech??

Gosh…the nerve of the dumb Wasilla snowbilly.

Seriously…what is it with the morons on the left that Mrs. Palin drives them absolutely batshit crazy?? It’s not just Biden that screws up in his public utterances, Obama is by far the biggest gaffe machine.

    “Corpseman”???

Jesus…just imagine if it were Palin who read that from a teleprompter…twice

  • roxsteady

Get Real! I have never written on my hand. In school they call that cheating and you’d likely be suspended. Does she think that kids should do this too? Her lame attempts to difuse this by repeating it, over and over is a clear sign that she too knows what a sophmoric blunder it was. It doesn’t piss off us Liberals. Instead, it further demonstrates her ignornace and total lack of self awareness, proving us right. I’m still waiting for mediaite to post the story about the canned laughter during her Tonight Show appearance last Tuesday. Lawrency O’Donnel covered it on Countdown Friday night and so did Ed Shultz. Nicole Belle of Crooks and Liars, who is also an award winning sound engineer was present at the taping. She didn’t hear the laughter we heard. In fact she said there were groans and even dead silence during her stand up routine. Apparently she was not as well received as we were all lead to believe so they added laugh tracks after the taping. This woman is beneath this President in every way. From the way he’s raising his children to his obvious superior intellect. It’s not even close.

  • roxsteady

Excuse my typos! Didn’t proof it but, I suspect you don’t need to see it written on my hand to get it.

  • Cubby

The whole “Palin drives the left crazy” narrative is, in itself, pretty nuts. Do you guys really think that the left hates Palin because she is a God-fearing mom? Or that they are petrified of the threat she poses to them? No, they are frustrated that someone who is basically a pandering, talking-point dispensing celebrity is so influential. Those on the right should be equally frustrated – instead of smart, rational conservatives taking center stage, the world is given Ms. Palin with her carefully crafted “gee whiz” personality.

And I know the usual response – Obama was an empty vessel too, a media creation. And that is correct, to a certain extent. He is also a constitutional law scholar who graduated from Harvard. And I will never accept the whole “smart/educated=elitist” argument. Shouldn’t we as a country WANT educated leaders?

Also – good point, Karl. It’s good to have a legitimate presidential historian here on this site. But you’d better watch out – it’s only a matter of time before ImNotBlue shows up with the “shocking” revelation that you are NOT an idiot named Karl Spensen! He really is doing God’s work.

  • writer

In various threads, the left has criticized Palin for writing on her hand, wearing jeans, getting ‘fake’ laughs, having a bad hairdo, and so on. Yet the left claims Palin doesn’t get under their skin. They’re merely highlighting her ‘faults’. The far left is like a high school clique standing outside the lunchroom and making snarky comments at those who don’t ‘belong’.

  • marigrace

    Cubby says:
“Those on the right should be equally frustrated – instead of smart, rational conservatives taking center stage, the world is given Ms. Palin with her carefully crafted “gee whiz” personality”.

As much as I hate to admit it, you have a point.

However the plastic POTUS and his equally plastic “Ya know” wifey aren’t any better, a wife who only came to like America when her husband was in the run for president: something I find despicable.

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

@writer: Please don’t jump on me for my example, but it’s something I’ve written about in the past.

The Simple Life was a quasi-reality show that starred Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. I’m sure you remember it, but for anyone who doesn’t; The first season they went around bunking with “normal” folks and were assigned “normal” tasks, which were often like a light or pre version of Dirty Jobs.

I’ve always held that contrary to a lot of the stuff written about the series, most likely more than half of the audience were laughing at the citified Miss Hilton, while the others were making fun of the “normals”. When combined, these two halves made it a hit show.

If you’ll pardon the comparison, but Sarah Palin is sort of the same story; She’s a media star because about half the audience likes to watch her make the liberals squirm, while the other half are finding amusement from her antics.

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

PS) And for whatever reason, Drew and Mediaite brought us the clip.

  • writer

Wouldn’t dream of jumping on you, Mag. You seem a decent sort. And it’s nothing to me whether anyone loves Palin or hates her. I just think it’s funny that in one breath the left says Palin is totally inconsequential, and in the next they’re worried to death about her. Huh?? And if they want to point out political disagreements, fine. But when they get into criticizing what she’s wearing or her hairstyle, it reminds me of high school kids. Funny stuff.

You are either lying to make yourself sound smarter than you are, or you had very sheltered youth. My guess would be the former, not the latter.

  • Cubby

Writer, I think that the frustration on the left is the same as the frustration on the right when they saw half the country falling for the hype of Barack Obama. A lot of them are genuinely concerned that embracing this celebrity politician will have devastating long-term effects on our country. For every person on the internet who insults Palin’s hair and clothes, focusing on style rather than substance, there is someone making even more ridiculous attacks on Obama (teleprompter, Marxism, birth certificates). The right blames sexism for attacks on Palin, the left blames racism for attacks on Obama. They’re both less right than they think.

  • writer

Yes, except that Obama is president and Palin isn’t. Keeping an eye on Obama is somewhat more important than what Sarah is wearing from one evening to the next.

  • marcus.lewis

@Barney: I’m not sure where you get that Palin gave a 45min extemporaneous speech; she most definitely had a prepared speech. I’m sure the video of her speech is still around if you think I’m wrong.

I could care less about writing on the palm; it just shows that she was feed questions ahead of time. No biggie, she’s not a politician and has no effect on my life. If she wants to be the head of the Tea Party, good for her. I would just caution her that if she plans on running for the pres, she is making all the wrong moves to get elected.

  • Cubby

I couldn’t agree more … I was just pointing out that some attacks on Obama are just as silly and baseless as criticisms of Palin’s wardrobe. There are legitimate concerns about the things Obama is doing, but his opponents shouldn’t risk their credibility by subscribing to the more ridiculous claims. The same can be said of their counterparts on the left.

  • Cubby

(Couldn’t agree more with writer, that is)

  • Grammie

Cubby said…..”For every person on the internet who insults Palin’s hair and clothes, focusing on style rather than substance, there is someone making even more ridiculous attacks on Obama (teleprompter, Marxism, birth certificates).”

I was with you until you put Marxism into the mix b/c basic political and economic ideology is of prime importance in any elected or appointed official.

I don’t think that BHO is a Marxist but I believe that has at bedrock some form of socialism., which is a foundation of Stalinism, Marxism, fascism and Naziism. I consider that worthy of discussion anytime, any way or any how as opposed to Palin’s wardrobe, hairdos, her daughter’s sex life or why her baby son has Downs Syndrome (see Andrew Sullivan).

The degree and ferocity of Palin’s coverage and screeching ridicule by the left goes beyond all reason or her power as simply a citizen as opposed to BHO being POTUS and all the power he has and more to the point how much he is trying desperately to acquire.

  • Cubby

True, questions about Obama’s ideology are different than superficial sniping. I guess by “Marxism” I meant the idea some on the right have that Obama is an America-hater who seeks to dismantle everything we hold dear about our government and replace it with a Soviet-style system. I feel like the more Obama critics throw around terms like “Marxism” and “communism” or, as Karl might say, “sociofascism”, the less seriously they are going to be taken. For example – believe it or not – I think Glenn Beck makes really important points from time to time. But five minutes later he’s trying to convince me that our schoolchildren are being indoctrinated into some sort of soclialist Hitler youth, and he’s totally lost me.

Doubtful. It depends on what you’ve written on your hand. I remember in school writing notes like, “Don’t forget history paper,” or “Call Bob to review project,” or “Jenny 867-5309.” Oh, Tommy Tutone… how you make me laugh.

Anyway… it was cheating if you wrote answers on your hand… but that’s not really what we’re talking about, is it?

It doesn’t piss off us Liberals.

    Really? You seem pretty angry.

I’m still waiting for mediaite to post the story about the canned laughter during her Tonight Show appearance last Tuesday.

The whole “Palin drives the left crazy” narrative is, in itself, pretty nuts.

    Really, let’s see…

Do you guys really think that the left hates Palin because she is a God-fearing mom?

roxsteady says (March 6, 2010 at 5:41 pm): ” This woman is beneath this President in every way. From the way he’s raising his children to his obvious superior intellect.”

Hmmm… and that happed only 7 minutes before you asked your question. I think that is a solid, “Yes.”

Or that they are petrified of the threat she poses to them?

Do politicians spend much time attacking people who don’t pose a “threat” to them? Again… an obvious “Yes,” to your question.

No, they are frustrated that someone who is basically a pandering, talking-point dispensing celebrity is so influential.

Again, doesn’t that answer your “threat” question as “Yes”? Her “influence” is “frustrating” to the left… ie, they are “petrified of the threat she poses to them.”

Those on the right should be equally frustrated – instead of smart, rational conservatives taking center stage, the world is given Ms. Palin with her carefully crafted “gee whiz” personality.

I suppose the question would be, who is responsible? The Republicans for “allowing” a private citizen to speak in public (as if they could stop her if they wanted to). Or those in the media who constantly highlight every little thing she has to say?

He is also a constitutional law scholar who graduated from Harvard. And I will never accept the whole “smart/educated=elitist” argument.

Educated and smart does not equal elitist. An elitist looks down on people who aren’t educated like they are, they frown upon things other people do and enjoy, and in general they think their experiences make the better than others. It’s not a “smart” issue… it’s an attitude issue.

…it’s only a matter of time before ImNotBlue shows up with the “shocking” revelation that you are NOT an idiot named Karl Spensen!

Hmmm, have I mentioned that is posts are “jokes.” I have… oh okay. Well, as long as posters on this site aren’t worrying, or concerning themselves with what I’ll say next, I think things are okay. Oh wait… Cubby mentioned me before I posted anything… called me out before I got here. Well… I guess we know someone who’s got INB on the brain. Uh-oh.

    COOL STORY BRO!!1

  • the real john t

I really like how the right keeps saying how the left is scared to death of Palin. Every person on the left that I’ve conversed with hopes and prays Palin runs for President. It would be the biggest comedy show of the century. Then you have these people squawking about the left criticizing Palin for her hair, clothes or anyother minor thing. Well what about the right criticizing Michelle Obama for her hair, clothes and anything minor they can think of. The last I knew Michelle Obama didn’t run for any public office.

  • ImNotBlue

    the real john t says:

So what you’re saying is that the right should stop attacking Michelle Obama for minor things… and the left should stop attacking Palin for minor things.

Sounds fair enough. But will you stick to it?

  • the real john t

    @ ImNotBlue

I don’t think you quite understand. Michelle Obama is not out there leading Teabaggers Parties. But I will agree that to criticize her hair (which I have never read) or her clothes (which I have never read) is not necessary. Because there’s enough to criticize her about, which she brings on herself, like everytime she opens her mouth and says something.

“You missed the alleged cost of her clothes stuff from the campaign?”
    —————————————–

I guess you just missed the whole point. On up the thread someone claimed the left was criticizing her for wearing jeans. That’s what I was refering to. But you bring that up, which she should be criticized for. She spent Republican campaign money (which is donations from people) to clothe her and her family at the most expensive stores she could find. She acted like she was on a paid shopping spree she’d won on the Price is Right or somewhere.

  • ImNotBlue

    the real john t says:
    March 7, 2010 at 2:47 am

Well, she was criticized for wearing Jeans… by (I think) Royal… here on this site.

    The Real Royal King says:
    March 3, 2010 at 9:51 am

I should have added, Cecelia, I think it terrible the Drop Out Governor [sic] wore those jeans on the program. When we have female candidates for employment come in for their interviews and, if hired, we expect them to wear dresses or skirts (as we expect males to wear coats and ties). It is mind-boggling how often women show up in jeans and pants for the interviews. We always give them an “opportunity to make a more favorable first impression.” You’d think that observing the dress of the other women in the office might suggest something to them. About 35% of the time, they come back dressed the same way. With the male applicants, we do sometimes have someone dressed in a golf-style shirt an [sic] jacket, but seldom. So, I think the Drop Out Governor [sic] could have done a great service to America’s young women if she had dressed as if she weren’t going down to the gulch to roll stink bait.

As for the linked to article… her alleged “shopping spree” was only one aspect of that “satire.” Additionally, the same discussion over money spent on Obama (and his family) was not had in the public… at least not until much later, and never as high profile.

In short, her “hair and clothes” have been a topic of discussion for quite some time.

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

@ImNotBlue: If someone attacked her for shopping at Walmart, then they’re an elitist who has most likely never lived in a small town, let alone Alaska.

Heck, I knew that one of her “triumphs” as mayor was that she was able to get Walmart and Lowes to put locations in Wasilla and I believe that the wedding she officiated in Walmart was at their grand opening. Though I could be misremembering that last part.

  • AnotherAlaskan

@timzank: “Virtually everybody has written on their hand to remind them of something, it’s very common, unlike the impression given by an “elite” using two teleprompters to speak anyplace, including an elementary school.”

You’ll appreciate knowing that Obama was actually speaking to reporters at a press conference after meeting the kids so you don’t keep making this blunder. See:

    http://www.aolnews.com/the-point/article/what-the-obama-school-teleprompter-photos-really-show/19330300

Honestly, don’t you think it’s a LITTLE silly that a political genius like Palin must remember her core principles by writing them on her hand–even when she knows beforehand what the questions will be?

But hey, it’s even stupider to keep acting like she doesn’t use a teleprompter. Please click through the entire slide show below so you can watch Palin read her “I quit but I’m not really quitting, I’m just going to go get rich while you guys carry on–but never forget, I’m doing it for YOU, Alaska!” speech off of a teleprompter. Yes, sad but true–she actually wrote that gibberish down first and then read it off a teleprompter. Probably she should have just written “I quit” on her hand, read it, and called it good. Because I guarantee you, no one in Alaska who was foolish enough to believe her BS in that speech believes it now.

    http://www.pensitoreview.com/2010/02/11/exposed-photos-show-palin-to-be-a-serial-teleprompter-user/

P.S. Obama’s “corpsemen” equals Palin’s “lacksadaisical” while talking to Chris Wallace. There–see what a stupid argument that is?

real john, you say that Michelle isn’t running for anything. Palin isn’t either. Can you provide a link where she said she is? Simply appearing on TV and giving her opinions doesn’t qualify as running for office. And if, as you say, you’d be delighted if she were to run, then I’d think you’d be glad every time she appeared on TV, so everyone could become enlightened like you and see what a dummy she is. Yet the left whines every time she appears. So which is it?
